The short version: liltale stores what it needs to show you the right chapter and keep your account yours. It is not an advertising business and does not sell anything about you.

What is stored when you have an account

Your email address, display name and username; a hash of your password, never the password itself; and the settings you choose, including your reading preferences.

Then the things that make the site work: which novels are in your library, which chapters you have read and how far into the current one you are, your bookmarks, and anything you post publicly — comments, reviews and reactions. If coin purchases are switched on, the ledger of those transactions is kept as a financial record.

What is stored when you do not

Reading without an account leaves no record tied to you. Your theme and reading settings live in your own browser, not on the server.

Cookies and local storage

One cookie, set when you sign in, which identifies your session. It is not used for tracking and there is no advertising cookie. Your theme, reading preferences, saved progress and unsent drafts are kept in your browser’s own storage and never leave it except when you are signed in and the server needs your progress.

Who else sees it

Google Analytics measures traffic — pages viewed, roughly where in the world, what kind of device. Its cookies are set by Google, and a browser-level tracking blocker stops them without breaking the site.

Mailgun delivers account email: password resets, verification, and the chapter notifications you asked for. It sees your email address.

Supabase hosts the database and Heroku runs the site, so both hold the data above as infrastructure providers. No one else is given it, and it is not sold.

Email you can switch off

New-chapter notifications, digests and reply notifications are all individually switchable in your settings. Email about your account itself — a password reset, a security notice — is not optional, because it is how you keep the account.

Taking it back

Your settings have an export that gives you your data as a file, and a delete that deactivates the account immediately and erases it after thirty days. Published novels that readers have paid for are not erased with it — they are set to hiatus, so nobody loses a chapter they bought.

If you would rather a person did it, or you want to know exactly what is held about you, write to osamamumtaz96@gmail.com.

Children

liltale is not intended for children under 13, and accounts are not knowingly created for them. If one exists, tell us and it will be removed.
