Chapters thirty through forty lose the thread a little — too many viewpoints introduced at once. It recovers completely and the ending is worth the wobble.

Earns every chapter
I do not usually finish long serials. This one I read twice, and the second time was better because I could see the joins. The pacing is deliberate rather than slow, which is a distinction most writers never manage.
Worth the patience
Nothing happens for eleven chapters and then everything does. The prose earns the wait, and the cold is a character. I have read a lot of serials; this one respects your attention.
